National Forest Foundation

In this post we’d like to highlight a foundation that’s most dear to us, the National Forest Foundation. As rising global temperatures make for longer dry seasons this then creates a sort of kindling throughout the landscape that spreads wildfires more rapidly. High winds combined with a dry climate has caused evacuations and destruction all across the West.

National Forests and Grasslands provide Americans with 193 million spectacular acres of wildlands. According to NFF, all while including being able to see it’s surrounding species and wildlife, we are able to partake in the following:

  • More than 9,000 miles of scenic byways to drive
  • Almost 150,000 miles of trails to hike
  • More than 4,400 miles of wild and scenic rivers to float
  • At least 5,100 campgrounds in which to pitch our tents
  • And 328 natural pools to swim in

These lands are the foundation of America’s outdoor recreation heritage. Promoting the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million acre National Forest System to all Americans. While these resources are available to us at little to no effort, it is important that we ensure these lands stay healthy and vibrant for generations to come especially while these lands are under constant threat whether it be rising temperatures, forest fires, or even legislation. Support NFF by joining their mailing list, take a camping trip, volunteer with a local group, hike a new trail, or simply just check out their website to further see what they do. National Forest Foundation will now be part of our resources page for future updates.
